In the biggest terror attack after the Uri attack in 2016, the death toll of the martyred soldiers have crossed 42 with 2 soldiers still in a critical condition in the hospital.

The terrorists had targeted a CRPF convoy, which was moving from Jammu to Srinagar and had over 70 vehicles and more than 2,500 personnel. Reports said around 25 others were also injured in the attack that took place on the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Awantipora's Goripora area.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack and said that the sacrifices of 'brave security personnel shall not go in vain'. He later spoke to National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. 

On the other hand, funeral prayers were held in the native village of the slain JeM militant who attacked CRPF in Awantipora.

Locals told that thousands of people marched from different villages towards Gandi bagh, the native village of JeM militant Adil Ahmad Dar alias Waqas commando.

Internet services have been suspended in the region.
