The Punjab Assembly Budget Session kicked off today i.e March 1 eventfully as there was major uproar in the assembly by Congress leaders over ongoing Farmers’ Protest which even caused Punjab Governer’s Banwari Lal Purohit’s speech to be cut short to just 10 minutes. Even before the Governers’ address, Congress leaders Raja Warring and opposition leader Pratap Bajwa and Sukhpal Khaira raised the issues of farmers’ movement and Shubhkaran’s death. The Governor tried to tame the situation but was unsuccessful in his attempts to do so following which he left the stage after delivering the first and last lines of his speech.

Following the uproar, the proccedings of the House were adjourned until 2 PM. The MLAs were adamant that a proper case should be registered against the Haryana Government and called for an FIR against Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij as well. It is important to note that a zero FIR was registered by the Punjab Police against ‘unknown individual’ in Farmer Shubhkaran’s death case.

Congress MLAs accused Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann of not being able to protect the farmers even within their own state borders. An FIR was registered on the death of farmer Shubhakaran by keeping the police anonymous but why was a case not registered against the Home Minister of Haryana, said the Congress leaders. They claimed that the postmortem of farmer Shubhakaran Singh was done in the dark of night. This is a violation of the law.
