The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put Punjab on yellow alert for the next four days, and the state is experiencing an intense heatwave. Multiple districts of Punjab are experiencing sweltering heat, and stepping outside in the afternoon is turning out to be challenging. The intensity of the heat can be understood by the fact that the temperature in one of the districts in Punjab almost clocked 45°C on April 25, 2025, and going by the prediction, the heat is likely to continue till April 29, 2025.
As per IMD Chandigarh, Bathinda was the hottest in Punjab on April 25, 2025. The maximum temperature of Bathinda clocked up to 44.5°C. Apart from Bathinda, Amritsar's temperature clocked 40.3°C, Ludhiana 41.4°C, Patiala 42.1°C, Pathankot 39.9°C, Ferozpur 40.6°C, Mohali 39.2°C, etc.
For the unversed, under the IMD's colour-coded alert system, a yellow alert advises people to stay cautious, avoid heat exposure, wear light-coloured and loose cotton clothing, and cover their heads with a cloth, hat, or umbrella.
