The cabinet meeting in Punjab earlier today has given the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government its first tax to the people of the state. CM Mann chaired the meeting and announced the major rejig on the tax on fuel increasing by 90 paise through the imposition of cess per litre of petrol and diesel. In the cabinet meeting, the crucial decision taken for the public was regarding the change in the prices of petrol and diesel.

After the stable prices on fuel for a whole year, how are people taking the Punjab government's call will get clear in a due course of time, at the same time, the first reaction came in from cabinet minister Aman Arora backing the government’s stand on the decision.

Cabinet Minister Aman Arora has given the first reaction after increasing the price of the fuel. He said that there was a need to increase the revenue of Punjab for a long time. Keeping this in mind, the cess has been imposed on petrol and diesel.

On the other hand, based on the reports from the experts, about 54 lakh kilo litres of petrol and diesel are consumed every year in Punjab. And with this decision in force, an amount of about Rs 470 crore will be directly added to Punjab’s budget every year.

The decision is a slight blow to the middle class's pocket after we see it together with the rise in the price of the cream milk by Amul and Verka by ₹4 a litre which was announced earlier today and post the cabinet meeting the decision on the cess came in.
