Punjab is every day seeing an increase in the cases of stubble burning. Farm fires reported in state have crossed the data of last two years. As per the ongoing situation, it seems like this problem is not only restricted to Punjab. Increase in stubble burning cases has become a nationwide problem and it has resulted in a ‘word war’ between the Lieutenant Governor Delhi and CM Punjab.

V.K. Saxena Delhi Lt. Governor on Friday wrote to CM Mann over the increasing problem of stubble burning and asked him to initiate strict action to control it. He further added that volume of farm fires in Punjab has increased a lot since 2021.

In response to this, CM Mann took his Twitter handle and wrote that LG is trying to teach us about solving problem of stubble burning while he is stopping the work of the elected government in Delhi. He further added that by writing this letter, Lt. Governor is trying to do politics on this sensitive issue which is totally wrong.

Although the problem of stubble burning has always remained a problem in Punjab but this year the recorded cases of far fires have put whole nation in worrisome situation. The Agricultural Minister and Environment Minister of India have also stated that issue of stubble burning in Punjab needs to be sorted out soon otherwise the state will turn into a gas chamber.

Lt. Governor in his letter to CM wrote, “I wish to draw your attention towards the pain and suffering that the people of Delhi are experiencing for no fault of theirs, and request you to undertake urgent and substantive measures to control Parali burning in Punjab, that has converted the National Capital once again into a gas chamber. The incidents of Parali burning have increased by a whopping 19 percent in the period between October 24, 2022, to November 2, 2022, as compared to the corresponding period in 2021. It is surprising that despite these initiatives and interventions, the cases of stubble burning particularly in your State have not only continued unabated, but increased tragically, severely affecting air quality in the National Capital amongst other places. I, on behalf of Delhi and its residents, once again sincerely and earnestly urge you to galvanize all available resources and machinery to make the farmers become willing partners in defeating this repetitive menace and help the Capital -- indeed the entire NCR, breathe", said the L-G in the letter, adding that he has also spoken with Haryana Chief Minister M.L. Khattar to look into this matter over the phone.”

The problem of stubble burning has become a serious issue in state. Although government is trying its level best to solve the problem as there are no alternatives left for the farmer, Punjab has witnessed increasing cases of farm fires.
