Punjab CM Mann assures financial aid for small shopkeepers for changing signboards to Punjabi language, watch

If anyone fails to change the signboards, then fine ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 5000 could be imposed as per the Punjab Official Languages Act.

Punjab government on 1st February 2023 issued orders to all private and public establishments for writing all signboards and names plates in Punjabi language. The deadline given by government to make the changes in signboard was till 21st February 2023.

On Tuesday, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann released a video of himself talking regarding the change in signboards and name plates. He stated that this decision was taken by government to promote state language in the state. He further added that main language written on the signboard should be Punjabi and below it any other preferable language could be written. CM Mann further added if any shopkeeper fails to get the new signboard ready because of high cost then Punjab government will help them to do so.

Punjab government while announcing this decision stated that if anyone fails to change the signboards then fine ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 5000 could be imposed as per the Punjab Official Languages Act. Talking about this decision Chandandeep Kaur, district language officer of Patiala stated that it is a great initiative taken by Punjab government for the proliferation of the Punjabi language.

She added further that along with name plates and sign boards, names of roads and milestones now will also be written in Punjabi. With this decision, the government has fulfilled the long-pending demands for implementation of Punjabi language.
