Punjab’s Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on 21st January 2023 initiated a big action against GST and tax evasion. The finance minister himself carried out raid on Delhi-Amritsar National Highway. There have been a lot of allegations against the GST department regarding tax evasion due to which now the government has started its action in regard to the same.
Finance Minister Harpal Cheema while conducting a raid at the National Highway caught around 15-16 trucks that did not have the appropriate documents and bills to show up to the government. Based on the same it has imposed a fine of Rs. 10 lakhs on each truck owner.
This is considered one of the biggest actions by the Punjab government against GST and Tax evasion. Earlier also many allegations have been raised against the GST department. Vigilance Bureau Punjab is also conducting an investigation on some officers of GST department.
Harpal Cheema also released a video in which he stated that based on some inputs by the sources their team got to know about some of the vehicles going on National Highway without appropriate bills. He added that as soon as the team got an insight, they reached the Delhi-Amritsar National Highway and carried out a successful raid. He also stated that Punjab government through its actions will curb the problem of GST and Tax evasion in the state.
