In a bizarre gang-rivalry incident, the mother of notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and his bodyguard were shot dead outside their house in Batala's Urban Estate on late Thursday night. As per the information received, Harjeet Kaur (52) and Karanvir Singh (29), were inside their car around 9:07 PM when two assailants started firing from the driver’s side. Karanvir, who was behind the wheel, died on the spot. Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's mother, Harjeet, sitting in the passenger seat, sustained six bullet wounds and was rushed to the civil hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Karanvir Singh was the primary target. 'Jaggu Bhagwanpuria mother firing CCTV' footage has also emerged. Karanvir was a close aide of Jaggu and allegedly managed his operations, including weapons and finances, while Jaggu remains lodged in jail.

Hours after the firing incident, three gangsters affiliated with the Bambiha gang, namely, Doni Bal Billa Manga, Prabhu Dasuwal, and Kaushal Chaudhary (both from Haryana), posted a statement on social media, claiming responsibility for the killings. The post reads-
"(Translated in English) Sat Sri Akal to our true warrior. We, Doni Bal, Prabhu Dasuwal, and Kaushal Chaudhary, take full responsibility for Karanvir’s killing in Batala. He managed all of Jaggu’s work, was a fugitive, and kept weapons and cash. We avenged our brother Gore Bariar’s murder through this justified act."
They further warned others associated with Jaggu and those who speak against them to be prepared for consequences.

As per reports, Harjeet Kaur had been living alone in a rented house in Batala. Her son Jaggu is in jail, her other son is settled abroad, and her daughter is married. Batala Police confirmed that the incident is being probed as a case of gang rivalry. “Police received information around 9:45 PM. Both victims were taken to the civil hospital, where they were declared dead. Karanvir’s family has been informed, and statements are being recorded,” the Police said. Karanvir hailed from Bhikhiwal village.
