Punjab govt schools: Admissions decrease by more than 2 lakhs in the session 2022-23

Education Minister Harjot Bains said that we will break the admissions record next year

In the government schools of Punjab, the admissions have declined by more than two lakhs. The admission process in the government schools for this academic session started from 1st April and it is closed now.

According to the reports, there is a total of 28.36 lakhs of admissions from primary to twelfth class in this academic session, whereas in 2021-22 the number of these admissions was 30.40 lakhs. From 2016-17, the enrollment of students in government schools started to increase, but in the first year of the new government, the admissions decreased by 2.04 lakhs.

On this, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said that during the pandemic, migrants went to their native villages, and as a result of this, the number of admissions declined in government schools. The parents who had removed their children from private schools and admitted them into government schools during Covid also put their children back in private ones. He also mentioned that the officials did not pay much attention to the admission campaigns. He said that we will make up this deficit, and will break the admissions records next year.

According to the statistics, compared to last year 1.22 lakh students decreased from sixth to twelfth classes.  This year, 13.84 lakh children have taken admission from pre-primary to fifth class.
