Punjab Hockey Federation congratulates Indian Hockey Team for reaching semi-finals

Indian men's hockey team beat Great Britain 3-1 in men's hockey quarterfinal to make the last four.

Dilpreet Singh, Gurjant Singh and Hardik Singh's goals helped India beat Great Britain in the men's hockey quarterfinal and make the semifinal of Tokyo Olympics on Sunday. India beat Great Britain 3-1 to make the last four.

 

The last time Indian team played in the semifinals of the Olympics was in 1972 Munich Games. But they lost 0-2 to arch-rivals Pakistan.

After Indian hockey team's historic win today, wishes started pouring in from Sports Fraternity. Punjab Hockey Federation President Nitin Kohli and MLA Pargat Singh congratulated the team for their outstanding performance and making India proud. 

 

On 30 July, Punjab Sports and Youth Services Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi announced that the hockey players from the state participating in the Tokyo Olympics would now get β‚Ή2.25 crore individually on winning a team gold medal. Earlier, an amount of β‚Ή2.25 crore was given to the entire team for winning a gold medal.

 

Rana Sodhi said that "out of a total of 20 players from Punjab, 11 players are giving their best in the Indian hockey team competing in Tokyo Olympics". He expressed hope that the country will win 3 to 4 medals in the Olympics.

 

After witnessing the stupendous performance of the team, Punjab Hockey President Mr. Nitin Kohli congratulated them for making it to the semifinals.

Congress MLA and former hockey player Mr. Pargat Singh also extended his best wishes to the Indian Hockey team.

 

β€œCongrats Team India. Semi finals spot after 1972 Olympic Games.   Earlier India won Gold medal won in 1980 Olympic games but there was no semi finals.  Keep it up Team India,” he shared.
