
Dilpreet Singh,Gurjant Singh and Hardik Singh's goals helped India beat Great Britain inthe men's hockey quarterfinal and make the semifinal of Tokyo Olympics onSunday. India beat Great Britain 3-1 to make the last four.
The last time Indianteam played in the semifinals of the Olympics was in 1972 Munich Games. Butthey lost 0-2 to arch-rivals Pakistan.
After Indian hockey team's historic win today, wishes started pouring in from Sports Fraternity. Punjab Hockey Federation President Nitin Kohli and MLA Pargat Singh congratulated the team for their outstanding performance and making India proud.
On 30 July, PunjabSports and Youth Services Minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi announced that thehockey players from the state participating in the Tokyo Olympics would nowget ₹2.25 crore individually on winning a team gold medal. Earlier, anamount of ₹2.25 crore was given to the entire team for winning a goldmedal.
Rana Sodhi said that"out of a total of 20 players from Punjab, 11 players are giving theirbest in the Indian hockey team competing in Tokyo Olympics". He expressedhope that the country will win 3 to 4 medals in the Olympics.
After witnessing thestupendous performance of the team, Punjab Hockey President Mr. Nitin Kohli congratulatedthem for making it to the semifinals.

Congress MLA andformer hockey player Mr. Pargat Singh also extended his best wishes to theIndian Hockey team.
“Congrats Team India.Semi finals spot after 1972 Olympic Games. Earlier India won Gold medal won in 1980 Olympic games but there was nosemi finals. Keep it up TeamIndia,” he shared.
Mr. Surinder Bhapa,Joint Secretary, Punjab Hockey Association, also congratulated the team andsaid that our best wishes are with them.
