Punjab Govt issues COVID advisory amid rise in cases, asks pregnant women & others to wear mask in crowded places

As per reports, active COVID cases in Punjab have surged from just 12 last week to over 35 currently.

The Punjab Government has issued a public advisory for residents amid a surge in COVID cases in the state. As per reports, active COVID cases in Punjab have surged from just 12 last week to over 35 currently. Ludhiana remains the most affected district, accounting for 23 of the new cases. Reports further suggest that two COVID-related fatalities have been confirmed in Ludhiana. One of the deceased was a 69-year-old woman under treatment at PGIMER, Chandigarh, while the other was a 39-year-old man who died at Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh. Health officials stated both had pre-existing serious health conditions and travel history that likely contributed to the severity of the infection.

What Punjab Government's advisory say?

Due to a slight rise in COVID-19 cases in some parts of the country, a precautionary advisory is being issued. Though the situation in the State of Punjab is under control and the health system is fully prepared, still, Citizens are advised to follow basic safety measures to help prevent the spread of infection.

Do’s:

  • Elderly, pregnant women, immunocompromised, and people with health issues should wear a mask in crowded or closed places.
  • Healthcare staff should wear masks and follow COVID-appropriate behaviour
  • Cover mouth and nose while coughing/sneezing using a Handkerchief/ tissue/fold of elbow
  • If you feel sick (fever, cough, breathing trouble), wear a mask and visit a doctor.

  • Avoid crowded or poorly ventilated places, especially if you have health problems.
  • Don’t touch your face without washing hands.
  • Don’t spit in public.
  • Avoid self-medication for respiratory symptoms.
