The law and order has become uncontrolled in Punjab. The increasing rate of criminal activities in the main cities of Punjab which are Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ludhiana has put the police administration under the spotlight. Not only these big cities but the small districts of Punjab including Tarn Taran, and Bathinda have also seen a rise in criminal activities.

While Amritsar is turning out to be the epicenter of drugs, Ludhiana and Jalandhar have become cities full of violence. The leader opposition, Pratap Singh Bajwa has directly held CM Punjab Bhagwant Mann for the disturbing law and order in the state. The main opposition parties, SAD and BJP have also stated that Mann is not managing his responsibilities in the state as he is busy doing election campaigns in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

The recent incident that came to the fore from Tarn Taran where a shop owner was shot dead by miscreants by firing 15 rounds of bullets at him. Reportedly, the reason cited behind the murder was extortion. This case has shaken up the whole state and has given birth to fear in the locals.

Here are the major incidents that have taken place in one month:

Amritsar: It has become an almost everyday routine that the videos of persons under the influence of drugs and drug trade being done openly have to the fore. Videos have sprung up where intoxicated people can’t even stand properly on their feet. Not only this, some videos came in which the youth were having intoxicants in their hands and openly consuming them.

Ludhiana: Reportedly, youth casually standing on the road were attacked brutally by 7-8 miscreants with the help of swords. When the youths tried to save themselves by running away, the accused followed then leaving them badly injured.

Jalandhar: In an incident, a verbal spat in the PPR market turned physical between drunk man and Police personnel deployed on duty, wherein the former grabbed the IPS officer by his collar as the matter escalated.

Bhatinda: A shocking video went viral that showed a village in Bathinda has openly put a signboard at the start of the village saying, “chitta itthe milda hai.” The information received revealed that 3 youngsters also lost their lives in the village due to drug overdose.

All the cases of increasing crime rates had and have been affecting the government. After the murder of slain singer Sidhu Moosewala, AAP had to face defeat in the elections held at Sangrur. Due to this issue, even the former DGP V.K Bhawra and Former Intelligence Head Parbod Kumar were transferred from their respective positions.

When ADGP law and order was contacted by TrueScoop, he refused to comment on this issue.

Along with Law and Order, the biggest challenge that is being faced by the police in Punjab is narco-terrorism. It has been 20 days since when 10 modules have been busted and more than 20 terrorists have been arrested for the same.
