Former MLA from Dhuri, Sangrur, Dalveer Singh Goldy joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday. In Chandigarh, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Mann welcomed Goldy into the party. Along with the CM, the party's candidate from Sangrur Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer was also present.

Dalveer Singh Goldy had resigned from Congress on Tuesday. As per reports, he was not happy at being denied Congress' Lok Sabha ticket from Sangrur. Instead MLA Sukhpal Khaira was chosen as their candidate.

Lok Sabha Contest with CM Mann

Goldy contested the 2022 assembly polls from Dhuri seat against current Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann on Congress ticket and was defeated. It is pertinent to note that in 2022, Congress fielded Dalveer Singh Goldy in the by-election for the parliamentary seat of Sangrur, which became vacant after the resignation of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, but was defeated by SAD (A)’s Simranjeet Singh Mann.

After the resignation from Congress on April 30, Goldy wrote on social media - "Sat Shri Akal friends, with a full heart, the decision I am taking today is for the benefit of my family, my colleagues, my relatives and all those who know me personally, my friends. It is well known that it was very difficult for me to take this decision."
