As per reports, the monsoon has made an early entry into Gujarat and is currently active in parts of Rajasthan. Reports suggest that Punjab is expected to receive the monsoon rains between June 22 and 23, eight days ahead of its normal schedule.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed this advancement, stating that the monsoon has already progressed over eastern Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. By June 20, pre-monsoon showers are expected to begin across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and western Uttar Pradesh.

As per historical data, Punjab typically receives monsoon around July 1. However, in 2021 it arrived on June 30, and in 2020, the onset was recorded on June 24. This year, monsoon winds are progressing rapidly, leading to early rainfall in parts of northwest India.

Relief from high temperatures is expected from Saturday onwards (June 22) as monsoon rains begin. Rainfall is expected to intensify on June 23, bringing down temperatures significantly. According to meteorologist Sukhwinder Rupana, Director at IMD Chandigarh, the upcoming monsoon could potentially bring above-normal rainfall to the region. In 2018, Punjab received 527 mm of rainfall, while in 2022 and 2023, it saw 416 mm and 405 mm respectively. This year, rainfall could surpass these averages.
