It has come to the information that 2 DGP rank officers of Punjab have received the central deputation. The Union Home Ministry has now cleared the name of IPS Harpreet Sidhu and IPS VK Bhawra for the central deputation at the Additional Director General Police level. Harpreet Sidhu is from the 1992 batch whereas IPS VK Bhawra is from the 1987 batch of the Punjab Cadre.

VK Bhawra was earlier the DGP of Punjab who went on a long leave. He also clashed with the government on the probe related to the Sidhu Moosewala Murder case after which replacing him Gaurav Yadav became the DGP. Post his 2-months long leave, VK Bhawra was made the Chairman of the Punjab Police Housing Corporation. The IPS officer was not at all satisfied with the decision.

IPS Harpreet Sidhu was earlier the head of STF Punjab. His name was also there in the list of would-be DGP but despite the fact he was more senior than Gaurav Yadav, his name was not considered during the choice of the DGP Punjab.

Both the officers were not happy with what all happened to them and showed their interest to go on a central deputation. Till now 14 IPS officers have gone on central deputation which includes 2 senior officers that are Sumant Kumar who is now the head of RAW and Dinkar Gupta who heads NIA.

All these IPS officers getting central deputation might affect the working system of the Punjab government.
