Punjab national hockey player Sumandeep Kaur dies by suicide after jumping into canal; 1 Arrested

In tragic news, a national level hockey player from Punjab died by suicide after jumping into a canal. According to information recieved, Sumandeep Kaur was harassed by her brother and sister-in-law and took the extreme step after finally getting fed up. Mulepur police station in Fatehgarh Sahib has registered a case against the brother and sister-in-law. The brother has been arrested.

 

Giving information in this regard, Assistant SHO Prithvi Raj said that Jaspal Singh son of Bant Singh Basi of village Nalina Khurd said in his complaint that he has 3 girls and one son, out of which 2 girls and one son are married. Complainant Jaspal Singh’s son Bikramjit Singh got married about 5 months ago. This is his first marriage and daughter-in-law Pinky's second marriage. His younger daughter Sumandeep Kaur was a national-level hockey player and was studying MA Punjabi from Patiala University. According to Jaspal, Sumandeep always complained that her brother Bikramjit Singh and sister-in-law Pinky always harassed her. Fed up with the harassment, Sumandeep Kaur left the house yesterday. She then proceeded to end her life by jumping into a canal. Sumandeep Kaur's body has reportedly been found.

 

Police have registered a case against Bikramjeet Singh and his wife on the statements of Jaspal Singh and arrested Bikramjeet, while Pinky is still absconding. Sumandeep's body has been handed over to her family after post-mortem at Civil Hospital Fatehgarh Sahib.
