Punjab CM opposes CISF deployment at Bhakra-Nangal Dams, demands Rs 600cr special package in NITI Aayog meet

In a major development, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday attended the NITI Aayog meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the NITI Aayog Meeting, CM Mann presented Punjab’s dynamic development vision under the banner of ‘Rangla Punjab’. He outlined Punjab’s ambitious Vision 2047, targeting over 8% annual GDP growth through progressive reforms and people-centric governance. Apart from pointing out developments and ongoing development projects in Punjab, CM Mann also opposed the Centre’s decision to deploy the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the Bhakra and Nangal Dams. CM Mann presented the development model of 'Rangla Punjab' in the NITI meeting. He outlined Punjab’s ambitious Vision 2047, targeting over 8% annual GDP growth through progressive reforms and people-centric governance. CM Mann pointed out that 406 services from helpline 1076 reached every home, a huge drop in corruption. 3.34 crore patients were treated at Aam Aadmi Clinic and Ayushman Centers. 1.5 lakh people joined CM Di Yogashala

Road Safety Force reduced accidents, and 30,000 people got help. The education revolution started in Punjab, the government is building 118 Schools of Eminence, 437 Schools of Happiness. Punjab government built gyms and playgrounds in every village, electricity and water facilities in 12,581 villages

Mann government gave 33% reservation in jobs to women, and 13 crore got free bus travel. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann raised Punjab's issues in the NITI Aayog meeting. CM Mann opposed the deployment of CISF for the security of Bhakra and Nangal Dam. Till now, Punjab has been handling the security of the dam, but CISF will weaken the rights of the states. As per sources, CM Mann demanded the immediate withdrawal of the decision of CISF deployment. 

Raising serious concerns over the functioning of the BBMB (Bhakra Beas Management Board), CM Mann accused it of disregarding Punjab’s consent while releasing water and excluding Punjab officials from decision-making. He demanded urgent intervention to halt BBMB’s alleged biased practices.

Reiterating Punjab’s stance on water disputes, CM Mann rejected the SYL canal, instead advocating for YSL (Yamuna Sutlej Link) and reaffirmed Punjab’s legal claim over Yamuna water. He also sought Rs 600 crore for the desilting of Harike Headworks, essential for irrigation and flood control.
