Punjab Police ends Nihangs search operation, recovered petrol bombs and weapons from Gurudwara where fugitives hid, 9 detained

A policeman's hand was chopped off and two other police officials were injured when a group of Nihangs allegedly attacked them in Punjab's Patiala district on Sunday, police said.

The alleged Nihangs who escaped from the ground situation have now been detained by the I.G. Jatinder Aulakh and SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu who inititated a search operation against them. The camp of Nihangs was totally surrounded by commandos and heavy police force.

According to the police officials, they asked the Nihangs to surrender themselves while taking care of the dignity of the Gurudwara Sahib in Balbera village. However, the nihangs refused to do so and fired three shots at the police to which cops retaliated.

For the retaliation when I.G. Patiala Zone Jatinder Aulakh and SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu walked in the camp they arrested 9 Nihangs, one of them is a woman. 

Authorities said that more than 20 Nihang Sikhs have been detained by Patiala Police in connection with the attack. Sharp objects, automatic weapons, and petrol bombs along with Rs 35 lakh in cash have also been recovered from the Gurudwara in Balbera village where the attackers took shelter on Sunday morning, said Patiala IG Jatinder Singh Aulakh.
