Punjab Police recovers Rs.2.38 cr in priest’s missing money case

Chandigarh: Breaking the stereotype and acting speedily in the Jalandhar priest missing money case, the special investigation team (SIT) of the Punjab Police, in coordinated operations on Thursday, successfully recovered Rs. 2.38 crores in the wake of the arrest of five persons from Sangrur and Patiala involved in siphoning off the funds.

Spokesperson of Punjab Police said informed that the money was recovered from the accused on the basis of revelation made by two ASIs, who were arrested on Tuesday during their interrogation by Punjab Police, in Kochi.

Dinkar Gupta, DGP Punjab Police, shared information about the recovery on twitter. He said that further investigations were in progress and all efforts were being made to unravel the entire chain of events and recover the full amount alleged to have been embezzled.

The nabbing of the two accused ASIs Joginder Singh and Rajpreet Singh is quite cinematic as their location was blown when they connected their mobile phones to surf Internet using the WiFi at Kochi Hotel Casa Linda, Fort Kochi, an alarm sounded inside Punjab Police Mohali-based Control Room.  Both the ASIs were wanted in the case of misappropriation of Rs 6.65 crore after a raid at the house of priest Anthony Madassery in Jalandhar on March 29, Punjab Police alerted their counterparts in Kerala.

Recoveries

The spokesperson further revealed that operations carried out by state police teams of different districts in Punjab wherein Rs 1 Crore was recovered from Nirmal Singh. The recovery was made in the presence of some villagers.

Patiala Police seized Rs 40 Lakhs from Surinderpal (Chiri), Rs 20 Lakhs from Mohd. Shakeel and to Rs 30 Lakhs recovered from HC Amrik Singh

In the case of arrests made by Sangrur Police, Rs 30 Lakhs was confiscated from Devinder Kumar (Kala) and Rs 18 Lakhs from Sanjeev Kumar.

The absconding ASIs were tracked down by the Punjab Police and were arrested by Kochi Police on Tuesday.
