Following the arrest of Sarwan Singh Pandher and several other farmer leaders in Coimbatore, farmers protesting at Shambhu warn that rail traffic at Shambhu will be blocked indefinitely from Monday (April 9) . In light of this, commuters looking to travel from Punjab to other states via railway are likely to face problems. The farmers demand immediate release of the detained leaders.

As per reports, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher and several others were arrested in Tamil Nadu for attemting to burn a Narendra Modi effigy. They had reached Coimbatore in a Asthi Kalash Yatra for the slain farmer Shubkaran Singh and were reportedly detained from a hotel. The farmers raised anti-BJP and Modi Govt. slogans while they were being transported away.

The farmers leaders back at Shambhu border said that if the detained leaders were not released immediately then the rail traffic blockade at Shambhu will be advanced by a day and it will be disrupted on Monday instead of earlier call given for disrupting rail traffic on April 9. Meanwhile, the effigies of central government were burnt at various places across Punjab and Haryana.

It is also important to note that the road to Delhi via Ambala is also partially blocked, causing distress to road commuters, due to the farmers’ protest at Shambhu. In such a scenario, air travel ticket fares are likely to increase.
