In an attempt to stop any kind of property fraud and ensure transparency, the Punjab government has launched a new alert system to notify landowners of any tampering or modifications in their land records. It means, if anyone attempts to alter land records, the concerned landowner will immediately receive an alert on their mobile phone and a notification via email. However, Punjab Land Record alert services will be available upon land record subscription for an annual fee of Rs 500. Once subscribed, users will get instant alerts about any change or registration activity linked to their property, enabling them to take legal action before any fraudulent sale can take place.
Why will the Land Record Changes alert be helpful?
By mobile and email Alerts, land owners will receive instant notifications for any update or tampering with registered land documents. This service will be helpful, particularly for NRIs and people working in other states who are unable to regularly monitor their property in Punjab.
How to apply for the service?
Residents can activate this alert system by paying Rs 500 annually through the official portal- jamabandi.punjab.gov.in.
The new system ensures landowners can file objections before property registration is finalized. Once an objection is filed, the sub-registrar will be barred from processing the registration unless the matter is resolved.
Jamabandi QR Code and Online Mutation in 15 Days
To streamline property mutation (intakaal) processes, QR codes will now be included on Jamabandi (land ownership documents), helping ensure digital tracking and faster processing. Mutation of land titles will now be completed within 15 days instead of weeks or months.
As per reports, nearly 40 lakh people annually visit and record centers to obtain copies of the Jamabandi in Punjab. More than 2 lakh applications are submitted each month. Under the new system, online applications for Jamabandi copies, khasra numbers, and other records will also carry QR codes for verification. Copies will be issued within 7 days of application.
How was the system before?
Before this, people had to physically visit patwaris, kanungos, and tehsildars, often facing delays and miscommunication. Now, certified copies of Jamabandi and other records can be downloaded online within stipulated timelines. Errors in records must be rectified within 15 days, and mutation completion reports will be publicly accessible within 30 days.
