The state of Punjab continues to witness severe heatwave and intense hot weather conditions as the temperature reaches above 45°C in several cities of the state. According to the reports by the Indian Meteorological Department, the dry spell will continue for a few more days as there is no sign of rainfall, thunderstorm or change in weather.
It is to be reported that certain cities of Punjab, including Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, and Ferozepur, are alerted with Orange Alert as these cities have been witnessing intense heat not just during the morning hours but also during the night time - causing trouble to the residents.
No upcoming rain relief -
The concern and tensions regarding this increasing heat has become intense as the IMD has mentioned that there is no sign of relief in this heat wave condition. Accordingly, this weekend might welcome isolated rainfall in some parts of Punjab, including Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ludhiana. However, the weather experts have outlined that this rain phase will be short-lived, offering temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave.
Heatwave condition may worsen -
Along with this above information, certain reports by IMD has also revealed that the heatwave condition may get worse, which will force the department to issue a “heatwave to severe heatwave” alert in many cities of Punjab, especially the areas which are situated in the south-west and center.
Along with this increased temperature, the states will also witness ‘Warm nights,” offering no relief during the night hours too.
What does state-wise data reveal?
The temperature in the major cities of Punjab, including Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ludhiana, will remain around 45°C, with very less possibility of rain.
Jalandhar - According to the latest update by the Meteorological Department, the temperature will range between 45 to 46°C, with rain possibility across the weekend.
Amritsar - Expectedly, the temperature range will remain between 44 to 45 °C with slight chances of rainfall during the weekend.
Ludhiana - The possible temperature to remain nearly 43 to 45°C with minimal to partial clouds.
IMD Advisory to Citizens
The weather department has advised citizens to take all necessary precautions to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses:
• Avoid stepping outdoors during peak hours (12 PM to 4 PM)
• Stay hydrated and wear light cotton clothes
• Avoid heavy meals and drink plenty of fluids
• Take care of children, elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions
