Punjab will soon get a new Director General of Police (DGP). VK Bhawra, the current DGP, will go to the center. Punjab's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has approved his demand for a central deputation. Bhawra has applied for a leave of 2 months.

He will be on leave starting July 5. The responsibility of acting DGP may then be given to Gaurav Yadav or Harpreet Sidhu. The names of DGP Sharad Satya Chauhan and Sanjeev Kalra are also in discussion in this race. These four names are also up for consideration to become Punjab's next DGP.

CM Mann yesterday visited Delhi and had a meeting with Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. Punjab's AAP government is dissatisfied with DGP VK Bhawra. The state's current law and order condition is the main cause of this. First, there was a rocket attack on the Intelligence Wing Headquarters in Mohali by Punjab Police. The rocket launchers have not yet been found by the police. Then the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala happened. This involved a Punjab Police intelligence failure.
