Today is the last day of Nautapa, a phase commonly referred to as the hottest part of the year in North India, which started on May 25. This year, Punjab did not feel even any meaningful heat wave conditions despite Nautapa coming to an end.

In spite of a marginal increase in maximum temperatures—an increase of only 0.1°C over the previous day—temperatures throughout Punjab were almost at normal seasonal levels. The hottest place was Aurangabad, where the maximum temperature was 42.3°C.

  • Ludhiana: 39.6°C
  • Patiala: 38.6°C
  • Ferozepur: 38.4°C
  • Bathinda: 42
  • Amritsar: 38.6°C
  • Hoshiarpur: 37.4°C

Maximum temperatures ranging from 38°C to 41°C were reported in most districts, leading to continuous heat but falling short of heat wave levels as well.

IMD issues yellow alert for rain and storm

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds (40-50 km/hr) in 16 Punjab districts for the next two days.

June 2 (Monday)

Thunderstorm and lightning warnings have been issued for Amritsar, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Ropar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Patiala, Sangrur, Mansa, Bathinda, and Firozpur.

June 3 (Tuesday)

Heavy rain and storm warnings remain in force for Ludhiana, Amritsar, Firozpur, Jalandhar, Patiala, Bathinda, Sangrur, Mansa, Mohali, Hoshiarpur, and Gurdaspur.

June 4 and June

There are no weather warnings issued for these dates, with the weather set to go back to normal in all of Punjab.
