Punjab Weather put on red alert by IMD over severe heatwave for 2 days; Know when rainfall is expected

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) of Chandigarh unit has put multiple districts of Punjab on red alert for a severe heatwave for at least two days.

North India, including Punjab, has been witnessing an intense summer in the month of June 2025. For the past few days, almost all districts of Punjab have been registering more than 40°C during the daytime. Now, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) of Chandigarh unit has put multiple districts of Punjab on red alert for a severe heatwave for at least two days. Punjab Weather on Red Alert

  • June 12- On red alert for severe heatwave- Fazilka, Muktasar, Faridkot, Bathinda, and Mansa. The rest of the districts of Punjab have been put on orange alert for the heatwave. 
  • June 13- On red alert for severe heatwave- Fazilka, Muktasar, Faridkot, Bathinda, and Mansa.
    On orange alert for heatwave- Ferozepur, Moga, Barnala, Sangrur, and Ludhiana

Punjab Rainfall Prediction

Punjab is expected to get relief from extreme heat starting from June 14. 

  • June 14- Rainfall Prediction- Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, and Rupnagar
  • June 15- Rainfall Prediction- Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala

Punjab Temperature

As per IMD Chandigarh's daily briefing, Amritsar and Bathinda were the hottest districts of Punjab on June 11. Amritsar- 45.8°C, Bathinda- 45.8°C, Ludhiana- 44°C, Patiala- 43.6°C, Pathankot- 43.4°C, Faridkot- 44°C, Samrala (Ludhiana)- 45.5°C, etc. 

Staying safe during a heatwave

  • Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated throughout the day.
  • Wear light cotton, strongly recommended with baggy ones.
  • Less sun exposure with devices like hats and umbrellas is advisable.
  • Drink cooling beverages such as lemonades, lassis, and orange juices, and eat cool fruits like watermelons.
  • Be careful of the first signs of heatstroke, which include dizziness, nausea, and exhaustion.
  • If one of these symptoms presents, it is advisable to cool down the body with ice or water and immediately seek medical attention.
