Punjab's mobile internet & SMS services suspension extended till March 21 noon

Punjab's Home Secretary Anurag Verma confirmed the internet suspension of Punjab.

In the latest development over Amritpal Singh’s search operation, the Punjab government has announced suspension of mobile internet & SMS services till 12 pm on 21st March 2023. The decision has been taken by the Punjab government to maintain peace and harmony in the state.

Reportedly, till now Amritpal Singh has not been arrested is absconding. Punjab Police has increased the manhunt near areas surrounding Jalandhar as he is suspected to be hiding there. Punjab's Home Secretary Anurag Verma confirmed the internet suspension of Punjab.

Anurag Verma stated in the order that social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp etc, and also Short Message Service (SMS) for spreading of inflammatory material and false rumours, to provoke mobilization of mobs of agitators and demonstrators, mobilize their own manpower and resources for their anti-national activities. He further added that as it is a threat to harmony of Punjab, the government has decided to suspend internet services till 21st March 2023.

For the unversed, police have detained 112 close aids of Waris Punjab De Chief Amritpal Singh. Earlier also, the government cancelled arms licenses of 9 associates of Amritpal Singh. All these steps are being taken against Waris Punjab De Chief after the Ajnala Police Station clash.
