Qatar Central Bank unveils commemorative banknotes and coins for the FIFA World Cup 2022

The move has came in association with FIFA releasing 22 Qatari Riyal which will also be issued to the visitors

The Qatar Central Bank along with FIFA and the Supreme Committee for Projects and Legacy launched a commemorative 22 Qatari Riyal banknote and coins that bears FIFA and the World Cup logos.

The notes and coins were unveiled at a special event which was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Bandar bin Mohammed bin Saoud Al Thani, QCB Governor, H.E. Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, and other important dignitaries.

The currency was unveiled on the special occasion to mark the sport’s greatest-ever tournament to be held in the country and has a picture of Lusail Stadium on one side with Al Bayt Stadium on the opposite side. The two stadiums are the venues for the opening and the final World Cup match. Also found in the background of the note are the Qatar National emblem, skyline, a dhow, and the iconic Zubara fort.

This currency also reflects the history of football in the middle-eastern country and will be offered to those wishing to acquire it, including the fans visiting the country to cheer for the team.

Qatar Central Bank also stated that the issuance of the official banknote for the World Cup in Qatar will stand in coordination with the official authorities who will be deployed in ensuring the successful organizing of the tournament.

During his opening speech, Sheikh Bandar said the note celebrates Qatar’s hard work and dedication in hosting the first FIFA World Cup™ in the Middle East and the Arab world.

He went on to discuss and present the measures taken up by the QCB in developing the banking and payment system in their country in order to provide the best services to their citizens, players and visitors coming for the World Cup.
