New Delhi: In an effort to break the deadlock in the Rajya Sabha, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday held two rounds of meetings with leaders of various parties before the commencement of the proceedings.

The first meeting was held before he released the Rajya Sabha Calendar 2019 and the second after the function.

Mr Naidu reminded the leaders that only four sittings of the House were left while substantial legislative agenda and issues of public importance awaited consideration of the House, including constitutional matter pertaining to Jammu and Kashmir and some bills like  the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2018.

On the floor of the House, the government tried to pacify members of AIADMK over their concerns regarding construction of Mekadatu dam on river Cauvery by saying that the concerned Minister will respond.

Still, the House was adjourned thrice before lunch over opposition demands.
