Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Jalandhar Central, Raman Arora, on Saturday afternoon was presented before the court by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. Raman Arora was arrested on Friday evening from his residence in fake Nagar Nigam notices, extortion & digital scams. Vigilance Bureau was granted a five-day police remand. Although officials had requested a 10-day remand, the court approved half that time.
On Saturday morning, the Vigilance team returned to Arora's residence, conducting a fresh round of searches at his home and vehicle. Sources indicate that during the ongoing interrogation, key leads have emerged, which could lead to the implication of more government officials across departments.
In a parallel development, the Vigilance Bureau questioned Arora’s personal assistant Rohit Kapoor, who reportedly claimed to only handle police-related matters. Another aide, Hunny Bhatia, was also raided late at night. From Bhatia’s residence, officials reportedly recovered a pen drive, a laptop, and various documents. Additionally, a raid was conducted at the home of the commission agent (Arhtiya) near Charanjitpura, from where he was also taken in for questioning.
Raman Arora's legal representative, while talking to the media, said, "A half-hour argument took place in the court. Vigilance informed that Sukhdev has given a statement that when he used to go to his home, he saw certain people. Only the disclosure sheet was presented in court. They said that they seized 1 kg of gold and Rs 6 cash and a few files. Raman Arora has already mentioned this as his assets when he submitted his affidavit before fighting the election. "
Notably, a few close aides as well as relatives are also under the radar of the Vigilance Bureau. Sources revealed that one of the close aides of the MLA, who is said to be vital to the case, is underground.
