Ravidas Jayanti: PM Modi visits temple in Delhi, participates in ‘Bhajan Kirtan’

Guru Ravidas Jayanti is a popular festival among Dalits in poll-bound state Punjab.

Guru Ravidas Jayanti is the birthday of Guru Ravidas, celebrated on Magh Purnima, the full moon day in the month of Magh month. People across countries celebrate this special occasion in India. It is a popular festival among Dalits in Punjab, who constitute more than 30 percent of the state's population.

The election commission changed the date of the Punjab elections due to the Ravidas Jayanti celebration. Polling was scheduled for 14th February, but, after the request of political parties the date was changed to 20th February.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday visited ‘Shri Guru Ravidas Vishram Dham Mandir’ in Karol Bagh. Sharing a post on Twitter, PM wrote, “Today, on the auspicious occasion of Ravidas Jayanti, I visited Sri Guru Ravidas Vishram Dham Temple in Delhi.

Happy Ravidas Jayanti to all the countrymen.”


PM Modi also participated in Bhajan Kirtan in the temple. He shared a video of it captioning it as, “Very special moments at the Shri Guru Ravidas Vishram Dham Mandir in Delhi.”



On Monday Prime Minister Modi visited Punjab for his first election campaign. He reached the rally wearing a ‘turban’. During his visit, he recalled the campaigning event in the 2014 elections when he became PM. Moreover, he said Congress is not able to do any good in Punjab. They are experts in opening liquor stores.
