On 26th March 2023, Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh called a meeting in Amritsar to talk about the tense situations in Punjab. Around, 60 to 70 Sikh organizations were invited for the same. During the meeting, various decisions were taken over the people that have been arrested while a crackdown against Amritpal Singh was going on. Adding to this, no political party was invited to this meeting called by Giani Harpreet Singh.
Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh stated that Sikh’s character is being tarnished. They further gave a 24-hour ultimatum to Punjab police. While giving the ultimatum, Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar stated that captured youths should be released within 24 hours.
Post the meeting, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) principal advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami released the set of decisions taken by them during the meeting. At first, he stated that a 24-hour ultimatum is being given to the government to release all the Sikh prisoners. He added that if the government does not do the same, various letters will be written to panchayats and meetings across Punjab. The advocate further added that financial assistance will be given to families whose members have been charged under NSA act by the Punjab government. They stated that various laws are being applied only to Sikhs and nobody else.
Sri Akal Takh Sahib Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh said that on the PMO portal, it's written that if there is any information about any Sikh or Muslim is there then it should be shared. By doing this, an attempt has been made to spoil the image of Sikhs.
Talking about Amritpal Singh, Jathedar ji stated that if he is in police custody then that should be made clear. If he is not then he suggested Amritpal Singh to appear and surrender to Punjab police.
