High court's decision provides temporary reprieve for former DGP Chatterjee

Indarpreet Chaddha suicide case Siddharth Chatterjee relief High Court notice period

In a recent development in the suicide case of Indarpreet Chaddha, son of former Chief Khalsa Diwan Chairman, the High Court has granted relief to former DGP Siddharth Chatterjee.

The High Court directed a seven-day notice period before any potential arrest. This decision comes after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government opened the case files, and the police were on the verge of arresting Chatterjee.

High court's directive:

Siddharth Chatterjee had filed a plea in the High Court, requesting a seven-day notice period before any action is taken against him. The High Court, during the hearing on Monday, issued orders for a seven-day notice, providing relief to Chatterjee, who was facing the prospect of imminent arrest.

Police's pursuit of Chatterjee:

The police had been pursuing Chatterjee in connection with the case, and his name had emerged during the drug-related investigation. The court's decision to grant him respite marks a significant relief for Chatterjee, as the police were keen on arresting him in this case.

AAP government's role:

It is worth noting that the AAP government had taken the initiative to reopen the case related to Indarpreet Chaddha's suicide. The FIR in this case was filed on January 3, 2018, at the Amritsar Airport Police Station. Subsequently, Siddharth Chatterjee's name came into the spotlight during the investigation.

History of the case:

This case gained prominence during the drug-related trial in 2018, when the court had placed a stay on the investigation into this FIR. However, following a recent request by the Punjab Police, the High Court removed the stay, allowing the investigation to proceed. Chatterjee then approached the High Court, seeking protection from arrest.
