The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) got a major boost in Punjab as renowned international hockey star and retired inspector general of Punjab police Surinder Sodhi and many other prominent personalities joined the AAP here on Monday.

The leaders joined the AAP in the presence of party's state president and MP Bhagwant Mann, senior leader of the party and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema and Punjab in-charges Jarnail Singh and Raghav Chadha. Warmly welcoming them into the party, the AAP leaders said that today the people of Punjab are seeing the Aam Aadmi Party as their only ray of hope.

They said that looking at the AAP as the only credible alternative which can bring a real change in Punjab, similar to the change brought about in Delhi by AAP's national convener and CM Arvind Kejriwal, many eminent faces joined the party along with Surinder Sodhi.

They were Colonel Mandip Grewal, who has been a two time gallantry awardee in the Indian Army and belongs to a family which has been in the armed forces from the last five generations. Also, Somnath Bangar and Jaswinder Kaur Mann, both independent municipal councillors from Ward 11 and 12 of Garhshankar municipal council joined the AAP. Both the councillors retained their seats in the municipal bodies' elections held recently.

Another leader Gurmail Singh Kaler aka J S Kaler, an international sports commentator, who was APPA's candidate from Nakodar in 2017, also joined the party. The leaders said that with these joining, the AAP got a major boost in the Doaba region of the state.

Welcoming the leaders to the AAP family, Bhagwant Mann said that joining of big faces like Surinder Sodhi into the party shows that the people of Punjab believes that the AAP is the only party that can bring about credible change in Punjab and make the lives of the common people better just like the Arvind Kejriwal government did in Delhi.

Raghav Chadha said that more big faces are lined up to be inducted into the AAP in the coming days which would give a boost to the party.
