Mumbai is yet again ready to witness a controversy after the Mumbai Police claimed to have busted a fake TRP racket on Thursday. Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh on Thursday revealed to the media in a press conference that the TRP is calculated on the basis of TV channel viewership in a confidential set of households. Accused would bribe these households and ask them to run some channels continuously even if they were not home. The BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) releases weekly rating points for TV channels in India and its own officials are also being questioned in connection with the case.

Param Bir Singh also said that the owners of Marathi channels Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema have been arrested. Arrests were made under sections 409 and 420 of IPC. And the Mumbai Police will soon be summoning Republic TV promoters and directors including Arnab Goswami in the TRP scam.

Now, Arnab Goswami has responded to it. The Republic said that all allegations by the Mumbai Police is baseless and it has been done because he questioned them in Sushant Singh Rajput's case.

The official statement reads, "Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh has made false allegations against Republic TV because we have questioned him in Sushant Singh Rajput's case investigation. Republic TV will file a criminal defamation case against Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh. There is not a single BARC report that mentions Republic TV. The people of India know the truth."
