Hyderabad: The Income Tax department on Tuesday, sustaining the pre-election raids, hunted the offices of the Telugu Desam Party lawmaker Jayadev Galla. He is also fielding from Andhra Pradesh Guntur for the ensuing Lok Sabha Elections.

Mr Galla along with other TDP leaders, staged a protest Pattabhipuram. "Why I am being targeted? Why is the TDP being targeted? Deliberate attempt by PM to influence polls. Moving towards state of Emergency and fascism", a furious Mr Galla said.

The recent raids were conducted on the same day when the Election Commission met with the Chairman of Central Board of Direct Taxes PC Mody and the Revenue Secretary AB Pandey to discus about raids and searches conducted all across the country.

The opposition has been continuously criticising the Modi Government for conducting raids, saying that his government is making use of tax department to tarnish their reputation before the upcoming elections. 

Recently, the Income Tax department had raided the residences and offices of aides Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath, including the residences of Kamal Nath's former private secretary Praveen Kakkar and his former advisor Rajendra Kumar Miglani.

The Election Commission had also instructed the investigation agencies to ensure that their pre-poll raids remain neutral from any political influence. The poll body had also strictly ordered to inform the officials well in advance before the search. The tax department also had from the very beginning maintained that the raids are free from any kind of political bias

Who is Jayadev Galla?

An Indian American politician and industrialist, Jayadev Galla is the richest of the lawmakers in India. He is the managing director of Amara Raja Group, Galla is a multi-millionaire industrialist. It was in the year 2014 that Galla contested for the very first time. Amazingly, he had a net worth of Rs 680 crore at that time. Jayadev Galla for the first time in 15 years, initiated the no-confidence motion against the government. Married to Padmavathi Ghattamaneni, he is the brother-in-law of famous Telugu actor Mahesh Babu.
