Govt to make amendments in IT Act to curb and ban child porn

The move is at the proposal stage right now and will be formalised soon

New Delhi, Jan 3: The government has suggested considering amendments in the IT Act, 2000 to arm itself with more powers to pull down apps and sites which promote and transmit child pornography and fake news in a prompt move to a letter by Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar.

The move is at the proposal stage right now and will be formalised soon.

The MP had written to the Minister for Law & Justice, Electronics & Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad urging his intervention to curb the growing digital sexual abuse of children as well as to regulate and shut down Mobile apps which threatens the safety of children, said a press release issued by Mr Chaandrasekhar's office on Thursday.
