The NDA has returned to power in Bihar, though by the slimmest of margins, as results on the Election Commission site indicated that it crossed the majority mark of 122 seats in the 243-member house as the NDA comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal United, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) winning 125 seats in all.

The BJP emerged victorious on as many as 74 seats while the JD(U) managed to win on 43 seats. Smaller allies, the HAM and the VIP won four seats each.

The Lok Janshakti Party, which had quit the NDA in the state in the run-up to the October-November elections, ended up with one seat.

The opposition Mahagathbandhan ended up with 110 seats, with the Rashtriya Janata Dal winning 75 seats, the Congress 19 and the Communist Party of India-Marxist-Leninist (Liberation) winning 12.

In this Bihar Election, it was expected that the Mahagathbandhan will sweep the NDA by a large margin and Tejaswini Yadav will become the youngest Chief Minister of Bihar. In fact most of the exit polls showcased Tejaswini winning this election. However, the reality changed drastically and NDA went on to win the Bihar Elections.

Now, Rashtriya Janata Party (RJD) has accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of conspiring in the vote count. RJD took to Twitter and wrote, "साज़िशन 4-5 घंटो तक एनडीए tally को 122 और  महागठबंधन को 96-100 के बीच रखा जाता रहा। इतना रोकने के बावजूद भी जब महागठबंधन बढ़त बनाने लगा तो मुख्यमंत्री आवास से हेर-फेर करने के लिए सीधे ज़िलाधिकारियों को फ़ोन जाने लगे। सनद रहे चुनाव करवाने वाले सभी राज्य सेवा के ही अधिकारी है। (For 4-5 hours, the NDA tally was kept between 122 and the Mahagathbandhan 96-100. Even after stopping this, when the Grand Alliance started making an edge, the Chief Minister started calling the District Magistrates directly to manipulate the house. All the officers who conduct the elections and vote count work for the State government.)
