June 8, KAPURTHALA: In a major robbery incident early this morning around 4 AM in Kapurthala’s Sarafan (jewelers') Bazaar, five armed miscreants arrived in a car and held the market’s watchman, Bahadur, hostage at gunpoint. They broke the shutter of a jewelry shop and took away a safe containing valuables. It is reported that the safe held gold and silver ornaments worth several lakhs of rupees.
Upon receiving information about the incident, DSP (Subdivision) Deepkaran Singh and the City Police team reached the spot and began an investigation. DSP Deepkaran confirmed the incident and stated that his team is reviewing the CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the crime scene.
According to available information, the miscreants targeted Singh Jewellers, located near a bank in Sarafa Bazaar. Around 4 AM, the five robbers arrived in a car, held watchman Bahadur hostage, broke open the shutter of Singh Jewellers, and took away the shop’s safe.
After receiving the report, DSP Deepkaran and the City Police launched an investigation and started examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area. DSP Deepkaran further stated that, according to shop owner Ajay Kumar, the stolen safe contained approximately 50 tolas of gold jewelry and 20 kilograms of silver, which the thieves took with them. As of the time this report was written, the police were still examining CCTV footage.
