RRR2 on the cards: Filmmaker SS Rajamouli makes a big announcement on the sequel of RRR

Releasing recently in Japan, Rajamouli's directorial blockbuster went on to shine at the box office becoming 3rd highest grossing Indian movie worldwide

The star Bahubali filmmaker SS Rajamouli has confirmed the extension of the RRR franchise, the year’s biggest blockbuster is under development, and his father V Vijayendra Prasad has started working on the story.

However, not much information is available by far on the RRR2. The fictional tale of RRR is based on the lives of two Telugu freedom fighters Alluri Seetharama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Jr NTR). The movie saw its recent release in Japan and went on to become the 3rd highest-grossing Indian film in the country with over 1,100 crores worldwide.

As per the reports from India Today, SS Rajamouli recently said at an event in Chicago, “My father is a story writer for all my films. We discussed a bit about RRR 2 and he's working on the story.”

Although RRR may have lost out to Chhello show as India’s official entry for Oscars 2023 the makers have submitted the film to the academy in all the major categories which include, Best Picture, Best Director (SS Rajamouli), Best Actor (Jr NTR and Ram Charan), Best Supporting Actor (Ajay Devgn), Best Supporting Actress (Alia Bhatt) and more.

Overwhelmed by the response the movie has received worldwide the makers wrote on their Instagram page of RRR, "#RRRForOscars. We are honored that RRR's overwhelming success represented Indian Cinema on the global stage by creating milestones at the worldwide box office and uniting film buffs worldwide by transcending linguistic & cultural barriers. We're grateful to each & every one who loved our film and cheered us over the past few months. You made this journey possible. The star-studded RRR is also among the 25 feature films and 20 non-feature films which are set to be screened during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which is scheduled to take place from November 20th to 28th in Goa this year.
