The appointment of Vinod Ghai as the new Advocate General (AG) has caused a ruckus in Punjab. The government is surrounded by opposition parties and social activists over the appointment of Vinod Gahi as new AG.

He defended the Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim in his case, the former health minister of the AAP government, Dr. Vijay Singla in corruption case, and the manager of singer Sidhu Moosewala in the sacrilege case. In such a situation, questions are being raised about his appointment.

However, supporters of the AAP claim that the government has appointed experienced lawyers to ensure that justice is served in all cases.

According to social activist Parvinder Singh Kitna, Ghai, who was a lawyer against the government in every major case, he was Ram Rahim's lawyer in the Panchkula violence during the sacrilege case and Dera Mukhi's appearance.

He was the lawyer of former Congress minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, former DGP Sumedh Saini, accused in the sacrilege-related shootout, and Simarjit Singh Bains, former MLA from Ludhiana trapped in the rape case. He has been the lawyer in the case of Delhi BJP leader Tajinder Bagga.

BJP leader Sunil Jakhar taunted and said that Bhagwant Mann has also followed the path of the previous Charanjit Channi's Congress government. First, the DGP and now the AG has been changed . The same script has been followed. Only the character has changed. Whatever the case, Punjab itself is suffering in this.

When the AAP government took over the chair, Advocate Anmol Ratan Sidhu was made AG. However, on July 19, he resigned citing personal reasons. He remained in this position for 4 months. His resignation became public on 26 July.
