Cyber-Crime experts at Oxford University and university of south wales conducted a global study that ranked based on their respective cybercrime prevalence. According to that, Russia wsa the most top globally in cyber-crimes while China ranked third. Russia’s neighbouring country, Ukraine came at second. Surprisingly, India ranks at 10th place in terms of cyber-crimes globally. In the study, fraud related to advance fee payment was found to be the most common crime.

 

Russia was on top, Ukraine was at second place and China was at third place while US stood fourth. In the report, main hotspots were identified according to different categories of cyber-crimes including ransomware, credit card theft and fraud. Scores were given on the basis of cyber-crime cases in the 'World Cyber ​​Crime Index'. However, the number of cases was not mentioned. Russia's World Cyber ​​Crime Index score (WCI score) was 58.39 out of 100, Ukraine's was 36.44 and China's was 27.86. India's WCI score was 6.13.

 

Experts from Oxford University and University of New South Wales conducted a global study on cyber-crime. An index was prepared on this basis. The study focused on five main cyber-crime categories which are:

  • Technical products/services (e.g. malware coding, botnet access, access to compromised systems, tool production).
  • Attacks and extortion (e.g. denial-of-service attacks, ransomware).
  • Data/identity theft (e.g. hacking, phishing, account compromises, credit ca comprises).
  • Scams (e.g. advance fee fraud, business email compromise, online auction fraud).
  • Cashing out/money laundering (e.g. credit card fraud, money mules, illicit virtual currency platforms).

 

These experts identified the countries they considered to be the primary sources of each cybercrime category. Apart from this, they ranked every country based on the impact of cyber-crime activity.
