Sukhbir Badal Statement Akali Dal BJP Alliance Lok Sabha Elections 2024

In a shock announcement, BJP announced that it will be contesting the 13 Punjab Lok Sabha seats solo for the first time since 1996. In response to this, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal gave his statement regarding the situation, saying that Shiromani Akali Dal is “not just a political party but a party of principles.

He further went on to say that “Akali Dal was not formed to just form a government, but to protect the principles of Punjab and peace & brotherhood of the Punjabis”. He also said that the Akali Dal solemnly stands with the farmers, saying that "if anyone has been fighting for the farmers, it is the Akali Dal". He claimed that “national parties in Delhi do single vote politics. We [SAD] don't do vote politics...”

BJP Leader Sunil Jakhar confirmed that the saffron party will be fighting Lok Sabha Elections 2023 alone in the state. Sunil Jakhar's announcement came after days of multiple rounds of alliance talks between the BJP and SAD to fight the Lok Sabha Election 2024 in Punjab together. It means, the alliance talks between BJP and SAD failed to reach a consensus and therefore, the saffron party will now be contesting the General Elections in Punjab on all 13 seats.
