The death of over 1500 migratory birds in Himachal Pradesh has forced the Kangra district administration to ban the sale and purchase of chicken and among other poultry products in several districts including Fatehpur, Dehra, Jawali and Indora. 

As per orders of the Kangra’s DM, the items whose sale and purchase has been banned includes eggs, one of the widely consumed poultry product. The decision was taken after a number of migratory birds were found dead in the region. Their deaths are suspected to be a result of spreading bird flu. 

Moreover, all the human activities within 10-km radius of the Pong wetlands has been banned in Kangra district.

Principal Chief Conservator Forest, Wildlife, Archana Sharma told the media that 628 dead birds were found in the Pong catchment area on Monday. “With them, the total numbers of birds that lost their lives rose to 2401”, she added.
