Sangrur By-poll: Congress, BJP, and Akali candidates will file nominations today, Know the candidates

Congress candidate Dalveer Goldy, Akali-BSP candidate Kamaldeep Kaur Rajoana and BJP's Kewal Dhillon will file their nominations today. The BJP on Monday announced Kewal Singh Dhillon as the party candidate for the Sangrur Lok Sabha by-poll. Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Gurmail Singh has already filed his nomination. 

In a statement, BJP national General Secretary Arun Singh said, "The BJP Central Election Committee has approved Dhillon’s name for the Lok Sabha by-poll in Punjab."

Dhillon was a two-term MLA on the Congress ticket. The bypoll was necessitated after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann resigned from his Lok Sabha membership. Mann won twice in 2014 and 2019 from Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency.

Know the candidates for Sangrur seat

• Gurmail Singh of AAP is the district in-charge of the party in Sangrur. He is also the sarpanch from the gharachon. He had opened a front against giving 23 acres of Panchayati land to private people. After which he came into the limelight. 

• Dalveer Goldy of Congress is a former MLA from Dhuri. In the last assembly elections, Bhagwant Mann defeated him by more than 58 thousand votes. 
• Akali-BSP candidate Kamaldeep Kaur Rajoana is the sister of former CM Beant Singh murder case convict Balwant Rajoana. Akali Dal has given the ticket to Kamaldeep on the issue of captive Sikhs.
• Kewal Dhillon of BJP has been MLA from Barnala. Some time ago Congress expelled him from the party. He joined the BJP two days back in the presence of Amit Shah in Chandigarh.

The credibility of the Aam Aadmi Party is at stake. AAP is facing the ire of the youth after the Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s murder. Sangrur Lok Sabha seat has been a stronghold of CM Bhagwant Mann. He was two times MP from here. In 2019, there was a Modi wave in the country. AAP lost all its candidates. Still, Bhagwant Mann managed to win with his influence. Now he is the CM of Punjab. In such a situation, victory is necessary to prove the work of the government.
