Sangrur MP Simranjit Singh Mann put under house arrest in Fatehgarh Sahib

Today, Mann had given a call to halt the trains in Dhuri, Sangrur to express solidarity with blogger Bhana Sidhu

Sangrur MP Simranjit Singh Mann was put under home arrest by the police in the early hours of Thursday. He along with his associates were put under house arrest in Fort Harnam Singh Nagar of Fatehgarh Sahib. Police forces were deployed in and around his residence and the area was turned into a cantonment. No one is allowed to go in or come out.

 

According to reports, in protest against the arrest of social worker and blogger Bhana Sidhu, MP Mann had announced Rail Roko movement in Dhuri from 1st February i.e. Thursday. MP Mann had come to his residence in Fatehgarh Sahib on Wednesday night. There he was detain in his house by the police earlier today.

 

In protest against this house arrest, MP's personal secretary Iqbal Singh said that this is against the essence of democracy calling it a “murder of democracy”. The police have cordoned off and locked everyone inside. The government is trying to suppress the voice of the people according to Iqbal. According to Iqbal, officials of Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar in Fatehgarh Sahib and Sangrur have been put under home arrest.

 

Bikram Majithia went on to post on X, calling this an “unlawful act showing the vindictive stance of the AAP-led Government.” Along with Majithis, Sukhpal Khaira, Congress MLA, had also posted on X, showing solidarity with Simranjit Singh Mann saying that he had announced a peaceful protest. Mann had announced the Rail Roko movement in Dhuri in solidarity with Social media blogger Bhana Sidhu, who was arrested last week on alleged blackmail charges.
