Scripting History: Two IAF women participate in Republic day parade

The IAF tableau showcased the mock-up of a light combat aircraft, light combat helicopter and Sukhoi-30.

Two Indian Air Force (IAF) women scripted history today on Republic day by becoming first woman pilots to participate in the Republic day parade.

Bhavna Kanth, 28 became the first pilot to take part in the Republic day parade. She was the part of the Indian Air Force tableau.. The IAF tableau showcased the mock-up of a light combat aircraft, light combat helicopter and Sukhoi-30.

Swati Rathore, another woman who is a Flight Lieutenant became the first woman to participate in flypast over Rajpath. She flew Mi17 V5 helicopter in a formation of four choppers.

Flight Lieutenant Bhawna Kanth flew MiG21 Bison Fighter Jet. She is currently posted at an airbase in Rajasthan.

Bhawna was inducted into IAF as the first woman pilot in 2016 along with Avani Chaturvedi and Mohana Singh. Kanth qualified for the day time combat missions on a fighter aircraft along with other three on May 22, 2019.

"I currently fly MiG-21, but later I would love to fly other fighter planes, including Rafale and Sukhoi," she told the media and also added that she had been watching the Republic day parade on television since childhood.

kanth and Rathore both were born in a village in Rajasthan. Swati Rathore joined NCC air wing after their schooling and she won gold medal in shooting. Swati took CAT exam in 2013 and she was one of the selected candidates after the interview and screening process.
