Security issues in south Kashmir, train services suspended

Trains were running normally as per schedule in north Kashmir.

Srinagar: On Friday, train service was suspended for security reasons in south Kashmir, where three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama on Thursday. 

A railway official told that an advisory was received this morning to suspend train service in south Kashmir for security reasons. There was apprehension of trouble as the three militants, who were killed in an encounter on Thursday are residents of Pulwama. Therefore, no train will chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region. 

Hundreds of passengers were disappointed, after they were informed at different railway station in south Kashmir that train service has been suspended.

“We are acting on the advice of local administration and police”, he said. He also said that adding safety and security of passengers besides railway staff and property is important.

Three militants were killed and as many soldiers were injured on Thursday in an encounter, which ensued when security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in forest area of Tral.

Train service has become very popular in the valley as it is very economical, safe and fast as compared to other mode of transport available.
