Militants manage to escape after gun battle in Tral

Srinagar, Jan 6: The encounter between militants and security forces at Tral in Pulwama, South Kashmir ended with the militants managing to escape, told the officials on Sunday.

They reported following specific information about the presence of militants at Aripal, Tral, in Pulwama, and troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) early on Saturday morning.

"When troops were moving towards particular area in the village, militants hiding there, opened fire with automatic weapons, to which the forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter," they said.

Meanwhile, several people were injured when security forces fired pellets and burst teargas shells to disperse demonstrators, who were trying to disrupt the operation.

They said the house in which the militants were hiding was blasted though during searches no body was recovered from the damaged structure.

"The militants had managed to break the security cordon and escape from the spot," they added.
