Shaadi.com, an online matchmaking site, recently conducted a survey called "India's Most Eligible" to explore the preferences and desires of Indians regarding their life partners. The survey was conducted for the first time and aimed to provide insights into what traits and characteristics are considered most desirable in a potential partner.

This survey was conducted on 2.5 million of its active members. The members consisted of 1.6 million men and 0.9 million women who had been active on the website from December 1, 2021, to December 31, 2022, for at least a week in these 12 months. The study was based on various things like profession, age, income, and location. The study has a comprehensive coverage of India.

The survey further finds that , financial independence is an essential factor for both men and women in India when it comes to finding a life partner. The study reveals that men earning an annual income of Rs 30 lakh are 190 percent more desirable, whereas women earning the same amount are considered 17 percent more desirable by potential partners.

However, age seems to be a more critical factor when it comes to men's desirability as a partner. The survey found that contrary to popular beliefs, men tend to face more difficulty in matchmaking as they age, with men over the age of 34-35 finding it harder to find suitable partners.

Furthermore in regards to age, the average age of individuals seeking a life partner through matchmaking has increased by two years in the past decade. Men's age has gone up by 2.5 years, whereas women's age has gone up by one year.

In terms of desirability, the survey revealed that men working in civil services or the tech industry are the most sought-after partners. In contrast, among women, aviation professionals and architects are considered the most desirable partners. On the other hand, those working in the agriculture industry are the least desirable partners for both men and women. Additionally, the survey found that individuals without jobs were the second least desired group.

The study offers important insights into the changing preferences of Indians when it comes to choosing a life partner, and it is interesting to note that traditional gender roles are being challenged. The results suggest that individuals are more likely to prefer partners who are independent, financially stable, and well-educated, regardless of gender.
