The workers of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have alleged that Sukhbir Badal's car was attacked by Congress workers in Jalalabad town of Fazilka district in Punjab. According to sources, three workers of SAD have sustained gunshot injuries.

It alleged that police-backed attackers were led by brother of a Congress legislator.

Parambans Singh Romana, Youth Akali Dal chief alleges that Congress workers are behind the attack. Romana alleged that the SAD workers were attacked by a brother of Congress MLA.

The attack is claimed to have occurred outside SDM's office at Jalalabad. It has been learnt that Shiromani Akali Dal Presdient, Sukhbir Singh Badal had been to the SDM office to fill his nomination for MC elections.

Romana alleged that stones were pelted at Badal's SUV. Romana was quoted by The Tribune as saying, "Sukhbir Badal is unhurt, though attackers opened fire at his bullet-proof car and pelted stones too."

Sukhbir Badal was sitting on the front seat when the car was attacked. Badal was in a bullet proof car provided by the government.

In a statement here, SAD spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said "it seems there was a premeditated attempt on the SAD President's life and the Jalalabad police was complicit in this crime as it allowed the attackers a free run."

"A high-level judicial inquiry should be held into this attack under the supervision of the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court as the heinous act seems to be enjoying state patronage".

Asserting that democracy was being murdered in the state with criminals ruling the roost, Cheema said the Chief Minister had lost the moral right to continue on his post.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Harjit Singh also confirmed that gun shots were fired but it is yet to be confirmed who fired and at whom. The whole sequence of events is yet to unfold.
